Porcelain (tooth coloured) Inlays and onlays are restorations prepared and placed usually on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth.
An Inlay fits within the confines of the teeth.
An Onlay covers the entire chewing surface of the tooth.
Inlays and onlays are used when conventional fillings do not provide adequate protection for the damaged or decayed tooth.
Inlays and Onlays may need two or more appointments to prepare.
During this two weeks time the dentist will place a temporary filling in your tooth to protect it from further damage.
Initially the dentist prepares the tooth and take impressions. Later laboratory technician will fabricate your custom-made Inlay and Onlay which are fitted in two weeks time.
